Southern Heat finish runner up in two tournaments
The Southern Heat 03 traveling softball team has finished runner-up in consecutive tournaments.
The first was the Shootout in the Lou April 22-23 and the Heat recently competed in the USSSA Total May-Hem tournament May 6 and 7.<br />Southern Heat - which is comprised of 11 girls from Chester, Steeleville, Nashville, Trico and Murphysboro - finished 5-2 at the May-Hem tournament, falling to Missouri Stealth 03, 6-4, in the championship.
Southern Heat also lost to Missouri Health, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the winner's bracket in the double-elimination tournament.
In the Shootout in the Lou tournament, Southern Heat finished 7-2, falling to Jeffco Xpress, 4-3, in the championship of the double-elimination tournament.
Southern Heat, which was representing the loser's bracket, beat Jeffco Xpress in the first game, 9-6, but since it was the Xpress's first loss of the tournament, a second game was required.
