Lester Dale Norris, 80, of Murphysboro, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Marion.
Lester had been a coal miner and had worked at Consol Burning Star No. 4 as a shot firer and dozer operator. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Du Quoin.  Lester was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He was born June 29, 1936, in Du Quoin, the son of Owen Elzie and Bertha Sophie (Hirsch) Norris. He married Sharon Teel Aug. 19, 1973, in Du Quoin, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Murphysboro; three children, Rene Voss of Junction, Shannon Norris of Murphysboro, and Aaron Norris and wife Kim of Troy; three grandchildren, Whitney Voss of Bluford, Dalton Voss and wife Heather of Dahlgren, and Levi Norris of Troy; and two great-grandchildren, Aiyla Voss and Remington Lowery, both of Bluford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard Norris; one sister, Lillian Zoller; and one sister-in-law, Charlotte Norris.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Earl Menchhofer officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion posts and the Army National Guard.
Friends may make memorials to the VA CLC Center in Marion. They and will be accepted at the funeral home.
