Coulterville man seriously injured in wreck
A 41-year-old Coulterville man suffered serious, but non life-threatening, injuries in a Monday accident on State Route 4 north of County Road 18.
According to the Illinois State Police's preliminary crash report, Brandon C. Gehrig was driving a MedStar Ambulance transport van northbound on Route 4.
One vehicle ahead of Gehrig, and also traveling northbound, was a National Guard semi driven by 20-year-old Joshua M. McClay of Oneida.
The report states Gehrig passed the vehicle between himself and the semi - which was signaling and attempting a left turn - and was overtaking the semi when it turned into Gehrig's path.
The two vehicles collided, causing the van to roll over and come to rest in the lanes of traffic, while the semi pulled to the shoulder. McClay and a 52-year-old passenger in the semi, Terry E. Rutherford of Springfield, were uninjured in the accident.
Gehrig was airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital. The report states that since Gehrig was airlifted from the scene prior to the investigating ISP trooper's arrival, the crash, which was reported at 9:32 a.m., is still pending investigation.
