Kids uninjured after car goes airborne on Rt. 4

Three juveniles narrowly evaded injury Saturday afternoon when the vehicle in which they were traveling apparently veered off Illinois 4 in Perry County, struck a culvert and went airborne before coming to a stop on the side of the roadway.
The vehicle's driver, 21-year-old Carlyle D. Townley, sustained non-incapacitating injuries as a result of the accident, which occurred around 2:09 p.m. June 3 on Illinois 4 near the intersection with Bobcat Road. Townley also was cited for improper lane usage and improper child restraint. She was transported to Sparta Community Hospital.
The three juveniles, whose names and ages were not released, were not injured but received precautionary medical transports.
Illinois State Police investigators say Townley was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on Illinois 4 when she left the roadway to the west, entered a ditch, struck the culvert, was launched into the air, and then came to rest to the west side of the road. According to investigators' preliminary report, excessive speed was a factor.
