Middendorf commits to John A. Logan

One of Steeleville's second team all-staters has decided on her college choice.

Lady Warriors senior Lexi Middendorf has committed to play softball for John A. Logan College, joining teammate Josie Raby as a Lady Vols recruit.

"I just like that it was local and everyone there is so friendly, I just felt like it was the best fit for me," said Middendorf, who was named to the Illinois Coaches Association all-state second team with teammate Sydney Hood after last season.

She was also named to the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division All-Conference team and was selected All-South as well.

Besides Raby, Middendorf will play with some other familiar faces in Carterville, as Trico High School's Katie Gale verbally committed on Aug. 15 and fellow Pioneer Jaelin King will become a Lady Vol as well.

"I like being with the girls that I'm familiar with because I think we will mix really well whenever we play," Middendorf said.

Middendorf was one of Steeleville's most dangerous hitters last season, batting .464 with six doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 35 RBIs. She only struck out nine times in 96 plate appearances.

"I think Logan's going to be super happy with her," said Steeleville coach Andy Gerlach. "I think she's Division I talent and to keep her local and to have her play around here is a great thing for Logan."

Middendorf said she considered a few other offers before deciding on John A. Logan and is happy to have the pressure of her college decision behind her.

"That is one reason why I wanted to go (junior college) first because I wasn't sure where I wanted to play yet," Middendorf said. "I know Coach (Taylor) Orsburn is going to help me to play at the next level."

Middendorf stated she plans to complete her general studies at John A. Logan before transferring to a four-year university to get her bachelor's degree in nursing.

"It took a lot of thinking, but I think it's the best choice," she said.

Middendorf, who also plays volleyball and girls basketball at Steeleville in addition to softball, was asked if she feels like a senior.

"I kinda feel like a senior when I'm playing sports and there's no one older than me," she said. "I'm excited to go to college, but I'll miss high school."
