CFD responds to fire at Hoff Brothers

Chester firefighters were paged Aug. 23 to assist the Perryville Fire Department on a fire at Hoff Brothers LP Gas Co. on Highway 61 north of Perryville.

According to Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert, a trailer containing straw bales caught fire in an open shed. He said employees noticed smoke coming from the shed and when they pulled the trailer out, the straw was on fire.

"One of the employees called it in and he was able to drive it out and parked it and it burned outside the shed," Bert said. "We could see the smoke coming across the Chester Bridge."

No injuries were reported. Chester firefighters received their page at 3:55 p.m. and were back in service at 7:10 p.m.
