Hospital hosts diabetes support group Group meets on the last Wednesday of each month
The Christopher Rural Health Planning Corporation and the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department are collaborating to sponsor a new diabetes support group.
The Franklin County Diabetes Support group will meet at 1:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month at Franklin Hospital, located at 201 Bailey Lane in Benton. Anyone who needs help maintaining their diabetes, who has had a family member or friend with diabetes, or who would like to learn more about diabetes is welcome to attend.
Each month the group will hear a speaker on a variety of health issues pertaining to diabetes including cardiovascular disease, eye disease, foot care, medication management, nutrition and blood sugar control. The group also provides an opportunity for people with diabetes to meet others and share valuable information.
There are believed to be about 30.3 million people living in the United States with diabetes. Diabetes was the fourth leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates in 2014. In Franklin County every year, diabetes is listed in the top 10 leading causes of death.
