Local artists take home Little Egypt Arts Association awards

Winners have been announced in the painting and drawing competitions hosted by Little Egypt Arts Association in Marion. An exhibit featuring the participants' work is on display now through Saturday, March 31.

A reception for the artists and the public will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Art Centre, 601 Tower Square Plaza in Marion.

Following are the winners:

<h3 class="leadin">Drawings: Susan Blakeley Lambert of Golconda, first place for "Exhausted"; Sherry Hohman of Cobden, second place for "Stillness"; Susan Blakeley Lambert of Golconda, third place for "Shoestrings"; and Emilee Key of Marion, honorable mention for "You Never Put the Safety On."</h3>

<h3 class="leadin">Paintings: Joan Skiver-Levy of West Frankfort, first place for "Wild Flowers"; Biki Chaplain of Benton, second place for "Night of the Supermoon"; Helen Ashrat of Carbondale, third place for "Eugenisa's Cats"; and Abbie Cullum of Johnston City, honorable mention for "The Open Range." </h3>
