Sparta author featured at signing
Sparta resident Edmond P. DeRousse will also be signing copies of "The Mighty Spartan and his common man adventures" from 11-3 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Orchid House, 204 W. Main St. Sparta.
The fiction book about life in small town U.S.A., which is Sparta. Pete Russey, the main character, was born and raised in Sparta. Because the main character lives in Sparta, DeRousse paid particular attention to its history. Things such as living through the Cold War of the 50s, the "In The Heat Of The Night" movie experience and the "Comic Book Factory."
Pete is an ordinary man who loves his ordinary life in his small Southern Illinois town. But life happens and so do his adventures.
"Although you may not have lived in Sparta, you definitely can relate to Pete," DeRousse said. "You will get a chuckle or two and while reading about Pete you can escape from all the negativity in the world."
DeRousse is the author of several books. His latest, "50 Hats of Aztec/There's History Under Those Hats (The 1st 25)" is a 100-page history book of wide-ranging topics. The histories are brief and contain known and little-known facts and trivia.
He is a retired educator for the Illinois Department of Corrections, an Army veteran, Eagle Scout, and was an executive with the Boy Scouts of America.
