Thompsonville man charged with shooting his own mother

Herrell also faces a first-degree murder charge

A Thompsonville man faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after he allegedly shot his mother last week.

Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says deputies arrested Jeffrey R. Herrell, 32, after responding around 4:38 p.m. Thursday, March 1 to a report of domestic violence and a shooting victim in rural Thompsonville.

The victim was Herrell's 52-year-old mother, who has not been identified. She reportedly received life-threatening gunshot and stab wounds, and she subsequently was flown to an out-of-state hospital.

Herrell has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted first- degree murder.
