CHS alum Berner received honors at SIU

Jordan Berner, a defensive end for the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale football Salukis and former Chester High School football standout, was among SIU athletes honored Feb. 21 during the SIU vs. Loyola basketball game.

Berner was among other first-time letter winners in all SIU sports who were presented with the traditional Saluki letter jackets that are earned based upon certain criteria. Berner, who redshirted his freshman year on the Saluki football Team, earned a starting spot on the 2017 team as a defensive end. For his efforts, he earned a letter jacket which was presented by a football upperclassman Blake Parsonage, who also played on defense for SIU.

Berner also received all-American status as a first-year starter for the Salukis. He was joined along with five of his teammates who also earned all-American status.

He was again recognized later in the month at the 2018 end-of-the-year Saluki Football Banquet and Awards Night.

Berner has begun spring football workouts and intends to return to his starting position next fall on the 2018 Football Saluki squad.
