Logan softball has mixed results

CARTERVILLE - The John A. Logan College softball team was swept by Wabash Valley on Thursday (5-3 and 3-2) but rebounded to sweep Kaskaskia (6-5 and 11-3 in five innings) in a pair of home doubleheaders.

Logan is now 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.

Wabash Valley, which is nationally ranked, handed the Lady Vols two losses but JALC head coach Taylor Orsburn-Siefert was encouraged by what she saw.

"I'm very pleased with how our team battled," she said. "We competed against the top pitcher in our conference (Jade Montgomery) which is a huge statement for our hitting staff."

Lynnsay Wilson and Taylor Rogers both had homers in the second game.

"Overall our team played great defensively and pitchers pitched with a lot of confidence," Orsburn-Siefert said. "But at the end of the day, the outcome did not fall our way."

Then on Friday, the Lady Vols trailed 3-0 in the first inning of the first game but rallied for a 6-5 win over the Blue Angels. Rogers went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Rebecca Moffett, Mikayla Chamness and Taja Dedecker all had two hits.

Bailey Anderson relieved in the circle and picked up the save.

In the second game, Sydney Levan pitched five innings for the win. Moffett, Rogers, Wilson and Chamness all had two hits and Dedecker hit a double to invoke the shortgame mercy rule in the fifth.

"I'm very pleased with how we performed on all sides of the game today," Orsburn-Siefert said. "We have some more work to do next week in practice but all I can ask from my athletes is to keep improving every day."
