Not a house fire in Chester after all
A report of a "possible" house fire brought the Chester Fire Department to a home on the 600 block of Van Zant Street on March 26.
But firefighters arrived to find the land owners conducting a "controlled burn" of the remains of a home that was torn down the week prior.
The high-shooting flames created a large glare in windows on a house across the street, and neighbors mistook the glare for an actual fire inside the home across the street from the property, officials said.
