Indians roll past Sparta

DU QUOIN - Tevin Lee went 3-for-4 with three doubles as the Du Quoin High School baseball team blasted Sparta, 12-2, Thursday in an SIRR Mississippi Division game.

Lee's first double came in the first inning, when the Indians plated four runs to jump in front after the Bulldogs stranded the bases loaded in the top half.

Ashton Smith drove in three runs with two hits, including a triple, and Bryan Witcher also had two hits and an RBI for the Indians.

Will Woodside drew a pair of walks and drove in a run in the win, which came a day after Du Quoin also scored 12 runs against Freeburg.

"The bats were alive again today for the second game in a row," said Du Quoin coach Kyle Geiger. "We've had a really good approaches at the plate and we're really working on situational hitting and trying to get runs in when they're in scoring position."

Du Quoin had the weekend off and was scheduled to play at Anna-Jonesboro on Monday.
