Du Quoin softball tops Z-R-C, 4-2

ZEIGLER - Morgan Bullar had three hits and drove in two runs as the Du Quoin High School softball team defeated Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher, 4-2, on the road Monday.

Du Quoin's record improved to 12-8 with the win.

Grace Haney singled and scored on a hit by Avery Waller in the first inning, then Katie Smith hit a triple and scored on a hit by Bullar in the second inning.

Z-R-C tied it with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then Du Quoin went back in front in the seventh.

Smith drew a leadoff walk, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Bullar's third hit to put the Lady Indians ahead. Bullar was plated on a sac fly by Chloe Hess for an insurance run.

Chloe Hill struck out the side in the bottom half to preserve the win.

"Hill threw very well and we scratched across enough runs to get the win," said Du Quoin coach Jason James. "We have to do a better job of making adjustments at the plate. We can't continue to let ourselves get out the same way over and over.

"We have a lot to work on before regionals but we will give our best efforts to improve."
