Lady Panthers split against 1A powers

PINCKNEYVILLE - The Pinckneyville High School softball team hosted two of the state's top Class 1A teams Monday.

In the first game, Mariah Clark hit a two-run homer at the plate and struck out 14 batters from the circle as Pinckneyville blanked Steeleville, 5-0.

In the second game, the Lady Panthers took on defending state champion Goreville and fell 6-4.

Pinckneyville allowed four unearned runs and left 12 runners on base in the loss.

The Lady Panthers' record shifted to 19-4 after the two games.

Pinckneyville was scheduled to play at Carterville in a makeup game Tuesday and travel to Marion for another marquee match on Thursday.
