Indians put in work at Benton meet
BENTON - The Du Quoin High School boys track team put in some work Wednesday at the Chuck Oyler Invitational hosted by Benton.
Herrin won the meet with 144 points, followed by Nashville (106), Harrisburg (95), Murphysboro (72), Du Quoin (62) and Pinckneyville (51) with 13 total teams competing.
The Indians used the meet to work on events but had several personal records set along the way, starting with Dasani Edward winning the triple jump with a PR mark of 42-7 on his first attempt.
Edward also helped the 4x100 relay to victory in a season-best time of 45.21 seconds. The relay also included Eliot Gross, Kyle Robinson and Westly Milam.
Milam also set a PR in the long jump at 19-11.5, which placed fourth, while Toby Hottes set a new personal best mark in the shot put at 41-5. Robinson also lowered his best time in the 110 hurdles to 15.83 seconds, which placed second behind Harrisburg's Niko Neal (14.96).
Du Quoin's 4x400 relay of Caleb Davis, Carson Davis, Ethan Zettler and Darian Edward placed fifth but also set a season-best time of 3:38.41.
In the 300 hurdles, Pinckneyville's Stetson Lappin was second with a time of 42.12 seconds behind only Neal (40.69) with Du Quoin's Zettler clocked at 45.15.
The Indians host the Du Quoin Classic on Friday at Van Metre Field, then gear up for the SIRR Conference meet next Thursday in Sparta.
