Youth Rabbit Show set for Saturday at fairgrounds
The Saline County Stockmen's Association will hold their Annual Youth Rabbit Show and Clinic this Saturday at the Saline County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the clinic and show begin at 10 a.m.
This show is open to all youth ages 6-19, and classes will be determined based on the number of entries. Awards will be given for the top three places in each class and for the best of show.
There is no entry fee and each class will pay at least three places. This is a clinic, so bring your questions for the judge.
For Saline County 4-H rabbit exhibitors, this is your opportunity to have your rabbits tattooed for the July 4-H Rabbit Show. Exhibitors are reminded that rabbit entries and their identifying tattoo numbers must be reported to the Extension office on the yellow Livestock Registration Form before May 15.

4-H Federation to Meet May 7
The Saline County 4-H Federation will hold a meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 7 at the Extension ffice. Those in attendance will be finalizing plans for summer workshops and discussing soda and concession sales at the July 4-H shows.
All 4-H Federation officers and delegates, as well as any other Saline County 4-H members and adult volunteers are encouraged to attend. See you there!
Horse Bowl and Hippology Winners
Congratulations to all our Horse Bowl/Hippology winners in the Southern Regional Horse Bowl and Hippology Contest held on April 14, 2018 at the Southern Illinois University Agricultural Facilities in Carbondale. SIU did a great job hosting the group, and University of Illinois Extension Staff put it all together very capably.
The 10-member team from Saline, Gallatin, Pope, and Johnson Counties had a great day, with five members eligible to go to the state contest at the University of Illinois on April 21.
Team members were Sierra Wilson, Wyatt Arnold, Shania Vaughn, Shelby Pribble, Remington Curry, Tayler Threet, Hannah Haney, Raegan Smith, Emersyn Smith, and Avie Counts. There were 68 total competitors in the contest this year.
Shelby Pribble placed first in Junior Hippology. Avie Counts was fifth and Remington Curry was 10th in Intermediate Hippology, Hannah Haney was first and Raegan Smith was eighth in Senior Hippology. The Senior Horse Bowl Team of Hannah Haney, Raegan Smith, Avie Counts and Tayler Threet won first place. Hannah Haney was first in individual Horse Bowl scores, Raegan Smith was sixth, and Avie Counts was ninth.
This was a contest when every single point mattered, and everyone did a great job! Congratulations to all!
