Steeleville thumps Pinckneyville 11-3
Steeleville hosted Pinckneyville for a Senior Legion game on June 6 and proceeded to dominate the visitors in an 11-3 victory.
Steeleville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held a 5-0 advantage after two innings of play. Pinckneyville would scratch across a run in the top of third only to see Steeleville answer with three more in the bottom of the third giving them a 8-1 lead. Pinckneyville cut the lead to 8-3 in the fourth but couldn't get any closer. Steeleville added three in the 6th to go on to an 11-3 win.
Eli Wittenborn started on the hill for Steeleville and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs, only 1 earned run, five hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Owen Gross struck out all three batters he faced in the sixth inning and AJ Stearns struck out two in the seventh. Jordan Wilson led the hitting attack going 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI. Ryan Vogt went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Wittenborn was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Gross was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Gavin Conway 1 for 2, Mel Mulholland went 1 for 3, Dusty Sutton and Jacob Sutton each drew three walks.
Steeleville improved to 2-0 on the season.

The June 7 evening match up in Murphysboro turned into a long one, lasting 12 innings.
Once again, Steeleville broke out to a first inning lead. Owen Gross led off with a base hit and hits by Ryan Vogt and Eli Wittenborn put them on top 2-0. Steeleville would add another run in the fifth inning making the score 3-0. Owen Gross dominated on the mound for six shutout innings before allowing Murphysboro to tie the game in the seventh 3-3. Neither team could cross the plate until the 12th inning. Gavin Conway led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Jacob Sutton. Owen Gross delivered a base hit scoring Conway putting Steeleville on top 4-3. Murphysboro could not answer, giving Steeleville the 4-3 win.
Gross, Vogt, Eli Wittenborn and Jacob Sutton each had two hits in the game with Gross, Vogt and Bradley Mevert driving in the Steeleville runs. On the mound, Gross threw 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 earned runs with 1 walk and 5 strike outs. AJ Stearns tossed the final 5 innings, giving up one hit, no runs, walked two, hit one batter, struck out 5 and got the win.
Steeleville is now 3-0.
