Elkville woman killed in car accident on Route 51

JACKSON COUNTY - A 31-year-old Elkville woman was killed the result of a car accident late Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 51 at Fox Road, between Carbondale and De Soto.

According to a Jackson County Sheriff's Department report, Kelsey Hazen, driving a red 2013 Toyota Camry, was northbound on U.S. Highway 51 and crossed into the southbound lane. She struck head-on a gray Mercury Mariner driven by Robert Rogers of Carbondale.

Hazen was pronounced dead at the scene. Rogers had to be extricated from his vehicle before being transported to a local hospital. His condition is not known. Responding to the scene were the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Carbondale Police Department, Carbondale Fire, De Soto Police, De Soto Fire and Jackson County Ambulance.

An investigation, including crash reconstruction, was conducted Thursday. The accident was reported at 9:19 p.m.
