SIH, Jackson County Health collaborate on event for moms

CARBONDALE - The fourth annual "Baby's Best Start Fair" is set for Saturday, July 28 from 1-3 p.m. at University Mall in Carbondale.

The event, co-sponsored by SIH and the Jackson County Health Department, coincides with the kickoff of World Breast-feeding Week.

The "Foundation of Life" theme focuses on key elements of action to advance breast-feeding as a part of good nutrition, food security and poverty reduction.

"Baby's Best Start provides an interactive environment with a number of regional experts on the benefits of breast-feeding, along with a number of additional resources," said Mary Jarvis, a lactation support specialist at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Experts will be on hand to share information on breast pumps, infant development and car seat safety. Additional hands on safety resources include instruction on how to "child proof" homes.

The event is free and open to the public.
