Campaign aims to bring The Dude to the Bucky Dome
Maybe, just maybe, The Dude will make his way to Carbondale.
A new event on Facebook hosted by the Fuller Future Festival and the WTF? Carbondale page seeks to invite the inimitable Jeff Bridges to visit the R. Buckminster Fuller Dome Home, located at the corner of West Cherry and South Forest.
The house is the only geodesic dome house ever actually inhabited by the design's forward-thinking creator, one-time SIU professor Fuller.
The event, "Invite Jeff Bridges to Bucky's House," aims to bring Bridges here for Fuller's birthday.
Bridges is apparently quite the Fuller fan and opened up on the topic during a recent appearance on The Wrap's "Shoot This Now" podcast.
"Bridges tells us how Fuller, one of his heroes, introduced the metaphor of the 'trim tab' to explain how small changes can force large ones," The Wrap reported Oct. 3. "Fuller noted that the rudder of a massive ship has a rudder of its own, called a 'trim tab,' that moves the larger rudder, and in turn the entire ship.
"'Bucky Fuller says that this is a great metaphor for how the individual affects society - that we are all connected to other groups of people who are like-minded, want to go in that direction,' Bridges said. 'And as a matter of fact on Bucky's gravestone he's carved in there 'Call Me Trim Tab.' And that's always been an inspiration to me.'"
Fuller's next birthday, what would have been his 123rd, is July 12.</group><group id="8CA4C01D-C9CA-4132-A5BB-08BC847D9722" type="seoLabels"><seoLabels>
