Stage Company opens 'The Crucible' tonight The classic expose of fear-mongering, which never seems to shed its timeliness, starts its run at The Varsity
The Stage Company's first production of its 37th season is Arthur Miller's 1953 Tony-award winning classic "The Crucible," which opens tonight, Oct. 12 at The Varsity Center in downtown Carbondale.
Elyse Pineau directs, with Jodie Salazar as assistant director, Miller's classic cautionary tale about the dangers of irrational fear mongering, theocratic government and the breakdown of community relations. Miller wrote "The Crucible" as an indictment of the anti-Communist hysteria that gripped the United States during the 1950s.
The full cast for the production includes Jeff McGoy, Keisha Rafe, Amber Beyke, Eric Billingsley, Susan Harrocks, Laura Borger, Charlie Hope Dorsey, Jeremy Osinga, Paula Hansen, Gynelle Baccus, Elise Wheaton, Antonio Salazar, Barretta Chullen, Todd Brown, Sena Ntumy and John Hunsell.
"The Crucible" plays Oct. 12 to 14 and Oct. 18 to 21, with Thursday, Friday and Saturday night shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. However, all tickets on Oct. 18 are $7.
