Missing Elkville boy found in his own closet
A multi-agency search for a missing 7-year-old boy Monday afternoon resulted in the child being located behind a dresser in his bedroom.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reports that authorities received a report around 5:06 p.m. March 4 of a possible missing or runaway child in Elkville. The 7-year-old boy could not be found in the house or on the property, even though his parents had seen him about 15 minutes prior. His coat and shoes were found in his bedroom, which was concerning due to the outdoor temperature.
Deputies responded to the call, searched the residence and began collecting information. The sheriff's office deployed a K9 and a drone. Volunteer fire departments and members of the community also responded and began an area search of the neighborhood.
In the end, the boy was found in his bedroom, sleeping in the small area behind a dresser, inside his closet. He was missing for about 2 hours.
