Barkley Giffin, Pecord receive awards at Phi Theta Kappa convention
CARTERVILLE - Director of Student Activities and Cultural Events, Adrienne Barkley Giffin, and Acting Vice-President for Instruction, Melanie Pecord, were recently recognized at the Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst Convention, the international gathering for Phi Theta Kappa chapters.
John A. Logan College's Upsilon Pi Chapter had nominated Barkley Giffin for the Distinguished Adviser Award. The award is given to advisers with over five years of service to their chapters.
Pecord received the Distinguished College Administrator Award. This award is given to college administrators who have gone above and beyond to help their PTK chapter grow and flourish on campus and who have directly been a part of college projects done by the chapter.
Pecord was honored to receive the award and is proud of the work the College's chapter is doing.
"I am so proud of these students and their academic achievements," Pecord said. "It was such an honor to receive this award and to be recognized by a group that is doing such positive work on our campus and around the world."
The Upsilon Pi chapter was also recognized as one of the Top 40 chapters out of 1,250 in the world. According to Barkley Giffin, the recognition is due to the work of the students.
"These students plan projects and meet regularly to make this one of the best chapters in the world," she said. "It is an absolute honor to be their adviser, and I am so happy for them."
