Du Quoin takes third in Marion Relays

MARION - The Du Quoin Indians took third place on Friday behind Marion and Carbondale in the Marion Relays, with firsts in the 4x400 relay and the 100 meters.

Du Quoin might have had a stronger performance, but the entire team wasn't able to travel to Marion.

"We had some guys missing from the lineup that caused us to scratch a few events," said boys track Head Coach Derek Beard.

Senior Westly Milam broke the tape in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.57 seconds.

In the 4x400, Darien Edward anchored Du Quoin's squad of Ethan Zettler, Anthony Cole and Carson Davis at 3:31.74.

Du Quoin took second in the 4x100 with a time of 44.49 seconds, behind Carbondale's 44.17. Milam was anchor with junior Dasani Edward in the lead, followed by Zettler and Shamar Adams.

Dasani Edward set a personal record in the long jump, placing second with a leap of 20 feet, 10.5 inches. Cole was third with 20-2.25. Edward also placed first in the triple jump at 44-5.25. Milam was fourth at 39-10.

Conditions were good for the meet, which was held after a few days of rain, Beard said.

"We had pretty strong wind for most of the meet, but other than that, it was pretty good. I was proud of our guys and the way they competed."

Overall, Du Quoin had 84 points, behind host Marion with 119 and Carbondale in second with 107. Other teams taking part were Murphysboro, Herrin, Salem, Centralia, Sparta and Harrisburg.
