Du Quoin School Board makes 11th-hour hires for new school year

DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin School Board entered into executive session last Thursday to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, and performance of specific employees in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

After about a 30-minute discussion, the board returned to regular session and made the following personnel moves:

• Hired Jaime Brown as a third-grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Hired Mary Williams as an EOC aide at the middle school for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Hired Scott Clark as the high school in-school suspension supervisor for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Hired Hannah Sims as a high school special education teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

• No action was taken on the high school assistant volleyball coach position. The board also approved the list of fall extracurricular activities volunteers.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the continued partnership for college and career success (dual-credit and enrollment) agreement with John A. Logan College.

• Approved the June 2019 financial report.

• Approved the payment of bills for June 2019.

• Approved and awarded the bids for food, milk, bread, cafeteria supplies and custodial supplies.

• Approved the minutes of the June 3, 2019 special meeting of the board and the June 20, 2019 regular board meeting (including executive session minutes).

• Heard the first reading of board policy updates/changes as recommended by the Illinois Association of School Board policy service.

• Heard an update on projects. Mr. Robbins provided information regarding the ongoing HVAC project at the K-8 building. He indicated that work has progressed well and that preparations for the installation of new units was on track. Superintendent Matthew Hickam spoke about the roofing project for Theobald Gym. Hickam will be contacting the architect and contractor regarding the project.

• Approved changes in authorized signatories for Du Quoin State Bank accounts to reflect the changes in the administration and office staff.

• Approved changes in authorized signatories for Banterra Bank accounts to reflect the changes in the administration.
