Last weekend, the Carbondale boys soccer team won the Cape Notre Dame Soccerfest tournament for the first time in recent memory.
The team is currently ranked eighth in 2A soccer in Illinois by MaxPreps. On the same site, James Oberg is first in 2A in goals this season with 18. Sajad Nasser is fourth with 11.
This year's team includes 16 seniors, among them Will Bruns, James Baltz, James Oberg, Justice Hagler, Chancellor Brown and Adam Lahlou. Their head coach is Jeff Hansen, and assistant coaches are Ortez Davis and Trebor Mann.
The Terriers met Cape Notre Dame for a rematch Wednesday in Carbondale. The team travels Saturday to face Belleville Althoff.
