3 arrested after shooing of 5-year-old

Police arrested three local juveniles after a 5-year-old girl was shot Monday morning.

Carbondale Police say officers responded just before 11:30 a.m. Oct. 7 to the 400 block of East Chestnut Street in reference to shots fired.

There, they found the injured girl, and the Jackson County Ambulance Service treated her at the scene before taking her to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where doctors stabilized her.

She then was transferred to a St. Louis-area hospital for further treatment.

Officers and detectives arrested three juveniles located in the area. Police have released no other details.
