Catholic Daughters of Americas Court 795 hosts October meeting

DU QUOIN - The monthly meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 795 was held Oct. 14 with a total of 16 members present. The rosary was led by Margie Born. Father Joseph made a brief presentation. He likes to see people coming together and complimented us for beginning our meetings by praying the rosary.

Mary has been forgotten and where we find Mary you find Jesus. God reaches us through Mary and she can help with many things if we pray to her. Father is considering people coming together once a month on Saturday to pray the rosary, reflect on the past month and other activities.

He was also contemplating having parishioners making rosaries to distribute to fellow priests and missionaries in Kenya and Uganda and other countries who are teaching their parishioners (or members) to pray. Several members expressed interest in forming a group to make rosaries and all members were asked to donate any extra ones they may have.

The Pledge of Allegiance was then recited. Carol Collins read the minutes. The Treasurer's report was provided by Margie Born. Lisa Mohr indicated that all member dues are now paid. Brenda Sims reported that memorials have been received fro Martha Roznowski.

Thank you notes were received from the PSR program, Father Joseph for priest appreciation and the Martha Roznowski family. A letter was read from Brintan, our Unbound child.

The quilters had no report. The CDA raffle tickets are ready to sell. A reminder was given that this year they are on a single sheet of paper that comprises one "book." Tickets are still 6 for $5 (one sheet). They can be turned in as a full sheet or cut apart as a single ticket. Please contact any officer with questions. In order to continue charitable donations, we need each member to sell tickets.

Kelly Paxton was absent. It was noted that there will be a Craft and Vendor fair on Nov. 16 at Haffner Hall. CDA Sunday is Oct. 20. Mass on Saturday is for deceased CDA members and Sunday is to honor the Court. The brick for CDA has been installed in the walkway and looks very nice.

State Regent Patty Head has been in contact with the three local courts: Du Bois, Pinckneyville and Du Quoin to set up a mini workshop.

Tentative date is Nov. 17 at the Pinckneyville Columbian Club from 1 to 4 p.m. Pinckneyville court will host. Program will be a condensed version of what will be presented in Effingham.

If anyone is interested in attending, please contact Brenda Sims. Also, the state is looking for a new District Deputy for Mary Iffert's replacement.

October birthdays are: Gail Taylor, Sally Fontana, Carolyn Williams and Cyrilla Prusacki. The next meeting will be Nov. 11. A collection of items to be donated to the nursing home will be taken at that time.

The prayer list was read by Carol Collins and closing prayer was led by Margie Born. The 50/50 raffle was won by Mary Iffert and the door prize by Dorothy Bailey.
