Veterans Day ceremony planned

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2671 and American Legion Post 280, both of Benton, will commemorate Veterans Day Monday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial at the Benton Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

The group will perform the traditional 21-gun salute, and the flag will be lowered to half staff. "Taps" will be played. Franklin County retired Judge Loren Lewis will make Veterans Day remarks.

The group will also perform a salute at the Benton Civil War cemetery behind the American Legion Hall.

Following the salutes, the traditional Veterans Day chili dinner will be provided by Helia Healthcare and will be served around 1 p.m. There is no charge for the meal.

The public is invited. The support of all area veterans and their families is encouraged.
