Mini Winter Golf Classic set for next weekend

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - Organizers say the Mini Winter Golf Classic is unlike any other event in Southern Illinois. Set for Saturday evening, March 7, the event gives participants an opportunity to showcase their miniature golf skills in an indoor competition while raising funds for the not-for-profit organization.

Featuring 18 holes of miniature or putt-putt golf, complete with twists, turns and obstacles inside the Black Diamond RV Superstore in Marion, the event is a fundraiser for the Foster Family Resource Center of Southern Illinois. Low-scoring foursomes and the low score individual will win cash prizes. Additionally, there will be raffles, a silent auction, on-course features, free food and T-shirts to all participants.

"This is a family-friendly event, perfect for anyone regardless of golf skills," explained Christine O'Dell founder of the Foster Family Resource Center of Southern Illinois. "It's a great way for people of all ages to have fun and help us serve area foster families."

The Foster Family Resource Center is a not-for-profit organization which provides supplies to area foster families to meet their immediate needs without cost, O'Dell explained.

O'Dell said the event begins at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 7 at Black Diamond RV. Participants must preregister and select a tee time at www.minigolfscramble.com. . A foursome is $100 and individual players can sign up for $25 each.

"We held a similar event late last summer and several players suggested an indoor event during the winter," she said.

Major sponsors of the Putt-Putt Golf Scramble are General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Black Diamond RV Superstore, Southern Illinois Local Media Group and Two Bugs and a Bean Children's Resale Boutique.
