No injuries in Illinois 13 Bypass wreck
HARRISBURG - No one suffered injuries in a Wednesday afternoon wreck at the stoplight on the west end of the Illinois 13 Bypass in Harrisburg, Harrisburg Police Department reported.
Officer Michael Casteel, who handled the wreck, said at about 1:01 p.m. Gregory Golish, 29, of Harrisburg struck the rear end of a vehicle driven by Ryan May, 26, of Harrisburg.
Casteel said Golish's vehicle struck May's vehicle on the rear toward the driver's side.
Neither Golish nor his passengers, Joshua Devardo or Shannon Hail, were injured, nor was May, Casteel said.
The intersection at the west end of the bypass was the scene of multiple fatal collisions prior to Illinois Department of Transportation installing traffic lights. Casteel said he believes the traffic signals have improved safety at the location.
"I think it's helped. It seems like there have been fewer crashes there," he said.
Harrisburg Police Chief Michael Riden, who, with Officer Bobby Ragsdale also were at the scene, also said he believes the traffic signals have been improving motorist safety.
"There were some bad ones there before, and it seemed like a lot more overall," Riden said. "I think (the traffic signals) have helped quite a bit."
Casteel said prior to the Illinois 13 crash, HPD responded to a collision between a school bus and a semi tractor-trailer, but that there were no injuries from that crash, either.
