Michael Herrin 2021 tourney is Nov. 13-14

The 13 annual Michael Herrin Memorial Soccer Tournament will be played Nov. 13-14 at the Bill Rice Memorial Soccer Complex, 920 W. Poplar St. in Harrisburg.

The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Michael Herrin, who played in the Saline Youth Soccer Association, with area soccer clubs and even internationally before he was killed in an auto accident in 2001, at age 15.

Registration deadline is Nov. 3 (after this date call Greg McCulloch at 618-841-6731). Fee per team is $225 ($150 for kindergarten).

14 new COVID cases in Saline, White

The Egyptian Health Department was notified Nov. 6-8 of 14 more Southeastern Illinois residents who have tested positive for coronavirus, eight in Saline County and six in White County. These include one teenage girl; two women in their 20s; one woman in her 30s; one woman in her 40s; one woman in her 50s and two women in their 60s. Among males, patients are one boy under 5; two men in their 20s; two men in their 50s and one man in his 60s. In the course of the pandemic Saline County has had 4,684 lab-confirmed positives, including 71 deaths; White County has had 3,080 lab-confirmed positives and 33 deaths; and Gallatin County has had 882 lab-confirmed positives, including nine deaths.

Girl Scouts 2021 gala nets over $86,000

The United We Lead gala surpassed the 2021 fundraiser goal of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois and netted more than $86,000 for the organization.

This year's gala was a virtual event.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the outpouring of support we received," said Heidi Koehl Weaver, director of Fund Development.

Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois serves nearly 5,000 girls and engages over 2,000 adult volunteers in 40 counties in southern Illinois.

The 2022 United We Lead gala will be an in-person event held Sept. 10, 2022, at the Regency Conference Center in O'Fallon.
