Charlotte A. Smith
Charlotte A. Smith, 75, of Du Quoin, passed at 9:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the SSM St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights, Mo.
Charlotte was a Registered Nurse and a homemaker. She graduated from the Columbus School of Nursing in Columbus, Ga. She had worked as a RN at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phoenix City, Ala., Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin and as the Tamaroa School nurse. She was a member of the Roe's Dale Baptist Church in Pinckneyville. She loved to be involved in the mission work of the church.
She was born Dec. 25, 1937 at Manchester, Ga., the daughter of Byron and Thelma (Odum) Alford.
Charlotte married Charles A. Smith Sr. on May 14, 1960 at Columbus, Ga. and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, son- Charles A. "Chuck" Smith Jr. and wife Mary of Du Quoin, two daughters- Brenda K. Harsy and husband Scott of Du Quoin and Sandra L. Powell and husband Tracy of Pekin, seven grandchildren- Nathan Harsy, Ashley Thorpe, Lauren Hobbs and husband Job, Anthony "AJ" Smith, Katie Smith, Bailey Powell and Chelsea Powell, two great grandchildren- Isaac Hobbs and Ethan Hobbs, two sisters- Dawn Blanton and husband Danny of Valley, Ala., Judy Williams of Ark., brother- James Alford of Columbus, Ga., sisters-in-law- Barbara Cavins, Loretta Barrett and husband Don and Theresa Zoeller, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 to10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Roe's Dale Baptist Church W. M. U. and will be accepted at the funeral home.
