Sharon J. Lazoen

Sharon J. Lazoen, age 74, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at 1:01 a.m. in Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, Ill.

Sharon was born on June 17, 1939 in Kewanee, Ill., a daughter to William "Bill" and Grace (Hogeboom) Skutnick. She married James Girkin and he preceded her in death. On June 25, 1966, she married Donald G. Lazoen in Kewanee, Ill. and he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1997. Sharon was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., was a volunteer for the Pinckneyville Ambulance service when it was founded and was a member of the Pinckneyville Bowling League. She worked as a cashier at WalMart in Du Quoin, Ill. for 15 years and was a homemaker. Sharon enjoyed going to the beach, swimming, playing bingo and cards. She loved watching Elvis movies and dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Ken Girkin of Kewanee, Ill.; three daughters, Susan (Lonnie) Miller of Cutler, Ill.; Karen Girkin (Bob Martin) of Pinckneyville, Ill. and Donna (Morris) Miller of Willisville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Adison, Wendy, Alden, Joshua, Maranda, Trevor and Caitlyn; one great-grandchild, Brayden and one on the way; one brother, Jim Skutnick of Kewanee, Ill.; one sister, Diane (Ernie) Cox of Kewanee, Ill. and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands and infant son.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bernard Goedde officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery.
