Marion sports bar hosts Logan Athletics fundraiser

MARION - A large contingent of John A. Logan College Athletics boosters turned out last Thursday at Pookie's Beer, Burgers and Bocce sports bar in Marion to help raise money for the program.

The weather held out after a downpour shortened the event a year ago.

Coaches representing all the Logan sports teams turned out, as well as Volunteers Athletic Director Greg Starrick. And there were several visiting dignitaries in attendance, including SIU Athletic Director Jerry Kill and new Saluki men's head basketball coach Brian Mullins and his staff.

Attendees paid $25 for a meal and participated in various raffles of sports memorabilia.

River Radio, which broadcasts the men's basketball games on 103.5 ESPN and the women's games (livestreamed on 103.5), was well represented with General Manager Steve Falat and Sports Director Mike Murphy, who also handles much of the broadcasting for the station. Ron Hines, who helps publicize Logan sports and assists with broadcasting, was also in attendance.
