Dist. 300 surplus property sell-off

The desk that nine Du Quoin High School principals sat at dating back to when the last high school was constructed in 1955 was among the items on the block during Friday's surplus property sale at the Wheatley School gymnasium. They included R. P. Hibbs, Hewey E. Tweedy, Charles Swinney, David Skocy, Dr. Gary Kelly, Lybrand Beard (twice), Tammy Beckham and Matthew Hickam. Sheila Haggard of Du Quoin talks to Dist. 300 Supt. Dr. Gary Kelly about the nostalgia of the desk, which had a price of $75 on it. Dr. Kelly and business manager Cory Robbins estimated that by the end of the day the sale would have generated $5,000-$6,000 for the district.
