Learning in Retirement announces fall classes
The Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement program will offer classes in genetics, archaeology, fiction, drama and music as well as workshops on improving technology skills in its fall session beginning Sept. 9.
Classes cost $10 each and meet in weekly two-hour sessions for five weeks. Workshops cost $5 each and meet in two two-hour sessions. Enrollment requires SILIR membership, open to anyone age 50 or older. Annual dues are $25.
The classes are "Understanding Genetics, the Newest Gene Editing Techniques, and the Science of Ancient DNA," Frances Oros, instructor; "How We Know What We Know: The Science behind Modern Archaeology," Brian Butler, instructor; "The Short Stories of Edith Pearlman," Beth Lordan, instructor; "Play Reading and Analysis: 4 More Plays by Agatha Christie," Christian Moe, instructor; and "The Instruments of the Orchestra" taught by members of the SIU School of Music faculty. Presenters include Michael Barta, violin and strings; Douglas Worthen, flute and woodwinds; Jessica Butler, trombone and brass; Christopher Butler, percussion; and Ed Benyas.
The workshops are "Understand iOS 13 and iPad OS," taught by Gary Hartlieb, and "Cloud Computing," taught by John Pohlmann.
