Hunter leads in Jackson County treasurer race

UPDATED 11/04/2020 @ 7:04 a.m.

A high-profile race for county treasurer brought Jackson County voters to the polls Tuesday.

With 56 of 56 precincts reporting, the Democratic incumbent, Liz Hunter, has claimed 11,236 votes. Hunter was appointed to the seat in 2019 following the retirement of Sharon Harris-Johnson.

Her opponent, Republican Jason Svanda, collected 10,551.

"I am so thankful to now be able to serve as your elected Jackson County Treasurer," Hunter posted to Facebook early Wednesday morning. "Thank you for counting on me!"

Current vote totals may not yet include all ballots cast in this election, and they won't be final until canvassed by elections officials.
