Cutler man pleads guilty to meth charge, gets 108-month prison sentence

A Cutler, Ill. man has been sentenced in federal court following a guilty plea on a charge of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

According to a prepared release from the court, Virgil L. Easton, of Cutler was sentenced Friday in federal court in Benton.

Easton had previously pleaded guilty to the offense, which occurred between January 2011 and January 2013 in Perry, Jackson and Randolph counties.

He was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison and fined $200.

The news release says Easton obtained and provided more than 70 grams of pseudoephedrine for use during the manufacture of meth.

Thirteen co-defendants have previously been sentenced for their role in the methamphetamine conspiracy.

One co-defendant has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. The cases were all part of a major Southern Illinois meth investigation in recent months.
