District 95 makes principal, assistant principal assignments
During last week's monthly meeting, the Carbondale Elementary School District 95 Board made a number of personnel changes, including assigning principals and assistant principals for the next school year.
The four schools in the district have a total of four principals and two assistant principals. Every one of those staff members has been assigned to a new school except one.
Jerrah Henson, principal at Parrish School, will remain in her position for the 2018-19 school year. But the remaining staff members have been re-assigned as follows:
Carmen Williams-Bonds is the current principal at Thomas School; she's moving to Carbondale Middle School. Kristine Uffelman is the current principal at Lewis School; she's moving to Thomas. Marilyn Ross is the current principal at Carbondale Middle School; she's moving to Lewis. LaTonya Mouzon is the current assistant principal at Carbondale Middle School; she's moving to Parrish. Zena Madison is the current assistant principal at Parrish; she's moving to Carbondale Middle School.
The board also approved a contract extension for Zeppelyn Brewer, director of pupil services, effective July 1 through June 30, 2021.
Board votes to release four teachers this year
The board recommended the following non-tenured teachers be released at the close of this school year: Andres Larino, TWI teacher at Lewis School;Mariela Agarwal, ESL teacher at Carbondale Middle School; Morgan Jones, temporary fourth-grade teacher at Lewis School; and Andrea Martin, temporary special education teacher at Carbondale Middle School.
Board hires two, OKs summer work
The board hired Carl Johnson-Mayberry as a substitute aide for this school year, pending a clear criminal background investigation; and Katie Acray as the assistant boys track coach at Carbondale Middle School.
The board also approved the following temporary summer work positions and workers: lawn care workers at 400 hours, $14 per hour each; painters, 400 hours, $14 per hour each; high school workers, 400 hours, $10 per hour each; and two central office secretary workers, 80 hours each, $12 per hour each.
Board accepts requests for leave, resignations
The board accepted the request of maternity leave for Eman El-Ayins, kindergarten teacher at Parrish School, to begin on or around May 4 through the remainder of the current school year. El-Ayins will return for the 2018-19 school year in August.
The board also voted to accept the resignation of Kelly Mitchell, secretary at Lewis School; Robin Yancey, science teacher at Carbondale Middle School, effective upon completion of this school year; and Ryan May, special education teacher at Carbondale Middle School, effective May 18.
The board also approved the notification from Regina Hill and Jamie Conn of their intent to retire at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
Board sets dates for end of school year
The board approved amending the current district calendar because of snow days used on Jan. 12, 16 and 17 and Feb. 7. May 30 will now be the last day for student attendance, and May 31 will be the last teacher institute day for the current school year.
Board OK's $2,000 for two field trips
The board approved paying a total of $2,000 towards the cost of field trips to St. Louis by second-graders and third-graders at Thomas School. The field trips - to the zoo and the Science Center - would take place in May. That amount, $1,000 for each trip, covers about one-third of the total cost. Fundraisers are being planned to raise the rest.
