Lionel Y. Bullock
Lionel Y. Bullock, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:24 a.m., Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital at Carbondale.
Lionel had been an electrician at the Old Ben 21 Coal Mine for 16 years. He had also worked at the Du Quoin Packing Company. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. He was also a member of the UMW of A, Du Quoin V.F.W., Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin Masonic Lodge. Lionel was also a member of the Ainad Temple Shrine, Scottish Rites, Perry County Shriners and Perry County Senior Citizens.
He was born Dec. 5, 1926 at Coello, Ill., the son of Horace Pleas and Mary (Yates) Bullock.
He married Leona M. Brown on Nov. 27, 1948 at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church in Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Mark Bullock and wife Jean of Du Quoin, one daughter - Debra Burns and husband DeWayne of Du Quoin, two grandsons - Blake Bullock of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Tyler Bullock and wife Jami of Du Quoin and one sister - Norma Gulley of Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother - Spruell Bullock.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Masonic services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, Shriners Children's Hospital or the Du Quoin Masonic Lodge and will be accepted at the funeral home.
