Durbin responds to Trump's border wall proposal

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) issued the following statement Saturday after reports that President Trump will offer to end the government shutdown in exchange for $5.7 billion for a border wall and temporary protection for some DACA and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients:

"First, President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader (Mitch) McConnell must open the government today. Second, I cannot support the proposed offer as reported and do not believe it can pass the Senate. Third, I am ready to sit down at any time after the government is opened and work to resolve all outstanding issues."
