Indians' bats fall cold in 3-0 shutout loss to Anna-Jonesboro

The Indians' bats fell cold Monday evening as they were only able to muster up three hits and no runs in a 3-0 loss to conference foe Anna-Jonesboro.
Du Quoin starter Jordan Edwards was effective through five innings of work, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks, while striking out five. Bryce Clarry worked two scoreless innings in relief, surrendering just one hit while striking out one.
But, it was the Wildcats starting pitcher Hunter Raus who picked up the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
Anna-Jonesboro got on the board to start the game, as Edwards walked two batters with one out. The next batter hit a one-hopper that went under the Du Quoin third baseman's glove for an error allowing Damian Chrisp to score and give his team the 1-0 lead.
Walks proved costly again in the third inning, as Anna-Jonesboro's Hunter Raus reached on a one-out walk and advanced to second base on a passed ball.
Anna-Jonesboro capitalized once again with Jake Wright knocking home Raus on a single to increase the Wildcats lead to 2-0.
They tacked on one final run in the fourth inning as a leadoff single came around to score on a sacrifice fly with one out.
The 3-0 lead would prove to be more than enough as the Indians only got three runners in scoring position in the game.
The Indians put runners on first and second in the fourth inning with one out, but the next two batters struck out.
Du Quoin managed to put runners on first and second in the fifth and sixth innings as well, but ultimately couldn't come up with a clutch hit.
Anna-Jonesboro turned to Bruce Osman in the bottom of the seventh inning to close things out as he struck out the side to seal the victory.
Du Quoin (9-6) will look to bounce back with another conference matchup Tuesday evening, traveling to take on Nashville at 4:30 p.m.
