Lady Indians break two school records, finish third at Carterville

The Lady Indians track and field team competed at the Carterville Invitational Saturday afternoon, finishing third with 79 points as a team. <br />Du Quoin finished behind Tolono Unity and Nashville who finished with 141 and 117 points respectively. <br />The Lady Indians had number of impressive performances, taking home five first-place finishes and two new school records.<br />Quinn Kirkpatrick tied her own school record in the pole vault, jumping 7 feet, 6 inches, good for a fourth-place finish overall. <br />Tarynn Mays won first place in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 12.15 seconds, breaking the school record previously held by Evette Williams who set the record of 12.3 seconds in 1982. <br />Rounding out the school record breakers was freshman Gabby Alongi who finished first-place in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:24.9, breaking her mother's (Cara Crews Alongi) record, who had previously set the mark at 2:26 in 1993. <br />Other first place finishers for the Lady Indians were Elizabeth Bird who won the high jump with a jump of 5 feet; the 4x100-meter relay team (consisting of Hannah Baxter, Bailey Harsy, Madison Davis and Mays) which finished first with a time of 51.6 seconds; and Davis who won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.4 seconds. <br />Other individual scorers were Davis finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.5 seconds; Harsy third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.2 seconds; the 4x200-meter relay team (Rylea McDonald, Skye Westerhouse, Baxter and Harsy) finishing fourth with a time of 1:59; Alongi finishing fourth in 1600-meter run with a time of 5:49; the 4x800-meter relay team (Alongi, Kirkpatrick, Lauren Cravens and Caitlin Stanley) finishing fifth with a time of 12:08; and Westerhouse finishing sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 4 inches.<br />The Lady Indians will resume action with a meet at Anna-Jonesboro Wednesday and another meet at West Frankfort on Thursday.
