New wound care clinic begins in May
For individuals who have chronic wounds or lesions that will not heal, Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin is expanding its services to include a new wound care clinic beginning May 3.
The clinic will be held every Wednesday morning in the Specialty Clinic department and will be dedicated to the treatment of chronic wounds.
Chronic, non-healing wounds can result from a number of factors, including diabetes, poor circulation, trauma, vascular disease and immobility (which can lead to pressure ulcers, commonly known as bed sores). People with diabetes are at particular risk. The wound care clinic not only will use therapies for healing, but also will address the underlying causes of the wound healing problem to help eliminate recurrence.
Patients who have a sore or wound that has not significantly improved in one month or healed entirely in two months are encouraged to ask their doctor about the new clinic, although it is not necessary to have a physician referral.
The clinic will be directed by Malcolm A. Schulz, a general surgeon with years of experience in wound care. He received his doctorate of medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, La., and completed his residency in general surgery at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.V., where he was the chief resident. He completed a fellowship in trauma/critical care at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
"We are very excited to bring another much-needed service to the patients in our community," said Dan Eaves, CEO of Marshall Browning Hospital. "Dr. Schulz has many years of experience and will provide the expertise and compassionate care that our community deserves."
Immediate appointments are available, and most insurances are accepted. Appointments for the clinic may be made by calling Marshall Browning Hospital at 618-542-1045.
