Guido Joseph Vincent Ogolini

Guido Joseph Vincent Ogolini, 97, of Dowell, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

Guido had worked as a truck driver at Consol #2 Coal Mine. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He had served as a PFC in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a light mortar crewman. He served in Rome-Arno, Southern France and Rhineland. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, World War II Victory Medal and three Overseas Service Bars. Before he went into the service, he delivered bread throughout southern Illinois for his family bakery. He was a member of Brotherhood Torinese Society, Herrin Eagles Lodge, Murphysboro Moose Lodge, a lifetime member of V.F.W. in Murphysboro, a lifetime member of Dowell American Legion and a member of UMW of A.

He was born Oct. 7, 1915 at Royalton, Ill., the son of Julius and Cesira (Zanarini) Ogolini.

He married Helen L. Cvetezar on Dec. 26, 1940 at Du Quoin and she preceded him in death on March 9, 1980.

He is survived by four children - Janet Crews and husband Dale of Du Quoin, Leo Ogolini of St. Charles, Mo., Terry Ogolini and wife Lori of Chicago and Mary Beth Tripp of Du Quoin, daughter-in-law - Laura Ogolini of Greenwood, Ind., 10 grandchildren - Sheri Depyatic and husband Rudy, Kristy Sanders and husband John, Kristoffer Ogolini and wife Christy, Damien Tripp, Veronica Tripp, Kaleb Ogolini and wife Kacey, Kristen Malicote and husband David, Kourtney Sutton and husband Derrick, Dylan Ogolini and Maya Ogolini, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son - Rickey Ogolini, one brother - John Ogolini, and two sisters - Olympia Perona and Rosie Moore and daughter-in-law - Delores Ogolini.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the VA Nursing Home in Marion and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and Army National Guard.
