Seniors finished on top during Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School's sixth homeroom challenge of the year.
The Feb. 2 PBIS event (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) was a football competition. Students who followed the Rule of 5 - attend school, learn something new, ask questions, tell the truth and treat others with respect - from Jan. 2 through Feb. 2 were eligible to join a team and compete in events.
Homeroom challenge No. 6 consisted of five events.
Throwing: Students had to stand at one end of the floor and throw a football through a stationary hoop down the field. The farther down the field the hoop was placed, the more points the throw was worth. The senior class dominated this event, earning 140 points. Senior Tierra Godsey was the MVP of the throwing event after scoring 35 points.
Catching: Students ran down the field and caught passes from their teammates. The further down the field, the more points the catch was worth. The freshmen team dominated this event by making five out of six catches for 60 total points.
Kicking: Several trash cans were set up on the field, and students attempted to punt the footballs into them. This is a very difficult event, and only junior Justin Gulley was able to earn 10 points for the junior class.
Chicken football: Five rubber chickens were put in the center of the floor, and five minutes were placed on the clock. Every time a student made it across the goal line with the rubber chicken, that person's team earned five points. The sophomore team of Darion Barners, Allie Reed, Shelby Nielsen, Abbey Zertuche and Addi Prather completely dominated this event with eight touchdowns.
Participation: The senior class earned five points for having 92.3 percent of the class eligible for the event. The freshmen class earned 10 points for having 96.6 percent participation. The sophomore and junior classes each had 100 percent participation for the event, so both teams earned 20 points.
The junior class, Hosmon's Blue Devils, finished the football competition in fourth place with 75 points. The freshmen team, Manier's White Knights, finished in third place with 140 points. The sophomore class, Kirkland's Krazies, finished in second place with 155 points. And the senior team, Kuhlmann's Killaz, finished in first place with 160 points.
"Congratulations to Coach Kuhlmann and the seniors for winning their second straight Victory is Ours trophy!" Superintendent Bryce K. Jerrell said.
