Forrest A. Dunmyer Sr.
Forrest A. Dunmyer Sr., age 85, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at 8:40 p.m. in Fairview Health Care and Rehabilitation, Du Quoin, Ill.
Forrest was born on July 2, 1928 in Dearborn, Mich., a son to Frank Stanley and Ellen (Devor) Dunmyer. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army for two years and the National Guard for nine years, serving during the Korean War. On Aug. 22, 1950, he married Hilda Louis Tilley and she preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2012 after over 61 years of marriage. Forrest was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church, Du Quoin, Ill. where he voluntarily maintained the church grounds for over 20 years. He had worked as a coal miner and loaded coal barges for Peabody Coal Company for 26 years. He was a member of the U.M.W.A., V.F.W. and Eagle's Lodge. He enjoyed music all of his life and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Christy (Kim) Carter, John (Rita) Dunmyer and Teddy (Rick) Taylor, all of Du Quoin, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Dunmyer of Du Quoin, Ill.; a sister, Nancy (Tony) Denim of West Frankfort, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Vernon Louis Carter, Niki (Larry) Alvarado, Shane (Teresa) Dunmyer, Kati Dunmyer, Andrea (Clint) Furlow, Amy (Mike) Patterson, Amanda (Mike) Race, Rick Taylor and Rachel (Andrew) Hall; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who were all very dear to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Forrest "Frosty" Dunmyer Jr.; and two brothers, James Dunmyer and Frank Dunmyer and a sister, Junetta Betts.
Funeral services will be held at Gospel Assembly Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gaylen Holden and Pastor Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment will be in Old Du Quoin Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill. Graveside military rites by Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion.
Friends may call at Gospel Assembly Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
